Kokopelli's Daughters is the extension of Dr. Deborah Louis' former professional practice to a national network of women with varying kinds of professional expertise who cooperate in providing services to community nonprofits, public agencies, and microentrepreneurs who can't afford such services in the commercial marketplace. The name reflects the spirit of their efforts in the spritely flute-player with the bag of seeds on his back who represented joy, fertility, nurturance, and growth to the Ancient Pueblo people of the North American southwest. Kokopelli's Daughters also develops educational materials and curricula in the social sciences and humanities where interdisciplinary topics for active courses are unavailable in the commercial marketplace, and provides least-cost academic services to educational institutions. It is structured as an unincorporated association governed by consensus of an Advisory Board comprised of participating practitioners, and enjoys 501c3 tax exempt status. Previous projects have included organizing an annual benefit concert for a local nonprofit assistance agency, publishing two cookbooks that support a local nonprofit community garden and a nonprofit herbal health and foraging school, connecting a newly-formed health advocacy association with a seasoned community organizer with experience in the issues being addressed, and developing a textbook on women’s active participation in the founding and development of the U.S. to close a gap in college-level instructional resources (in process). We have also drafted several successful 501c3 applications for tax exempt status on behalf of new community nonprofits, edited three books for first time authors, and managed three successful GoFundMe campaigns for worthy local projects. While the Covid pandemic slowed us down this past two years, we substituted a "Concert-in-a-Basket" raffle for the annual benefit concert, designed a 3-fold brochure for a breast cancer awareness and support foundation that was unable to hold its annual fundraiser thanks to the virus, and have been providing start-up organizational services to three new nonprofits with both local and national focus. Kokopelli's Daughters is funded entirely by private donations and occasional grants that support particular projects. Your support will be greatly appreciated!
